Following  the incredible popularity of our digital book series – The  Most Influential Shipping Container Homes Ever Built – we  have decided to release a number of expanded  titles  for 2015 showcasing in greater detail some of the  best in Container based Construction from around the World.

Book 64 – Single 40′ HC Series Shipping Container House – Ireland

Today’s featured Shipping Container Home was built by Ireland-based architecture firm Ceardean Architects, in collaboration with several partners and groups, as part of the Ripple Container Homes Project.

The home was built using a single 40’ Type 1A HC Shipping Container. Over 60 suppliers donated materials and labor to build this home, and it was completed in just three days. The end result is an affordable, comfortable and state of the art home.

The finished Home was donated to the St Vincent de Paul charity and used is as housing for the homeless. The shipping container spent some time on exhibit at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), before being moved to Deerpark in Co Cork.

Derek Trenaman of Ceardean Architects explained that the principal aim of the project was to serve as a “prototype” for communities looking for new and affordable ways of easing the housing crisis.
