Following the incredible popularity of our digital book series – The Most Influential Shipping Container Homes Ever Built – we have decided to release a number of expanded titles for 2016 showcasing in greater detail some of the best in Container based Construction from around the World.
Container Homes Book 78 – 2,250 sqft Hybrid Container House – Detroit USA
Today’s featured 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath Container Home was constructed by ModEco Development in Rochester Road Royal Oak Detroit.
The 7 Containers ( 5 x 40’ HC Containers and 2 x 20’ HC Containers) used in the Construction are laid out is a long horseshoe pattern. The gap left in the middle of the home could have been sealed off and used for a courtyard, but instead, they built a ceiling and additional walls for an open living space, accented by the big red steel doors of four shipping containers on the north side of the house. On the external Façade the red containers are covered by a Brick Veneer.
The House features an attached garage, vaulted ceiling, big kitchen and two second-floor balconies. The second floor is carpeted, as is the staircase built into a shipping container that had been turned on-end
