Shipping Container House Plan Book Series – Book 12

| By | Category: Free Tutorial, Profiled ISBU Home Projects

Following  the incredible popularity of our digital book series – The  Most Influential Shipping Container Homes Ever Built – we  have decided to release a number of expanded  titles  for 2013 showcasing in greater detail some of the  best in Container based Construction from around the World.

Shipping Container House Book 12 – Ultra Modern House with Passive Cooling Design

This week’s featured Shipping Container Home is located on a hillside just outside Chile’s capital city Santiago.  The Ultra Modern 3,800 sqft House designed by Chilean architect Sebastián Irarrázaval utilizes 12 x Type 1A 40′ Containers.

The decision to use Container based Construction stemmed from the desire to both speed up construction time, and reduce the overall cost of the project.

Whilst its quite a long way outside our usual Project Profile – ie affordable, robust and green housing this Container House does incorporate several features into its design that are definitely worthy of merit, one is that the design is entirely passively cooled – ie there are no air-conditioners and the house is profiled into the hillside – hence the unusual interior layout.
