Shipping Container House Book 22 – High End Home / Office Work Space
Estimated 20% time savings over regular construction methods.
Architect Maria José Trejos designed this 400 sqm work/living space on a site area of 544 SQM in Escazú, San José, Costa Rica incorporating 8 x Type 1A HC 40’ Containers for a Professional Photographer that will use the space as a combined Home Office Work Space.
The feature of retaining the Cedar tree represents the encompassing idea of the project as an icon of sustainability and wood obtained from cutting branches of the tree was used for the breakfast bar in the kitchen and the table legs.
By using the Container Construction Method it was estimated that costs were minimized, the impact on the environment and generation of CO2 were reduced and the construction time was shortened by 20%.
The central module, with its double height space provides passive cooling and the entire west façade is glazed to let in natural light so that during the daytime it is unnecessary to use electric fixtures.
On the second floor, one of the containers has been strategically placed to create a terrace on top and a porch below. inside are the private spaces of the bedrooms and a studio. from here, an outdoor pathway that leads to the stairs and the rooftop garden on the third floor that can be used as a sun deck for relaxation.
