Shipping Container House Plan Book Series – Book 24| By admin | Category: Free Tutorial, Profiled ISBU Home Projects
Following the incredible popularity of our digital book series – The Most Influential Shipping Container Homes Ever Built – we have decided to release a number of expanded titles for 2015 showcasing in greater detail some of the best in Container based Construction from around the World.
Conventional Plans re-designed to save money using Container based Construction.
This stunning cantilevered Container House was constructed in a very beautiful rural part of Northern Ireland by Patrick Bradley using 4 x Type 1A 45′ HC Shipping Containers.
Mr Bradley had originally planned to use conventional construction methods however the Architect realized during planning that he needed to reduce the construction costs to meet his budget and instead decided to use Container based Construction whilst still keeping the overall aesthetics of the original design by cladding the exterior of the house.
The upper level of the Container Home cantilevers over the lower – creating a balcony surrounded by steel fins that protect the interior from unwanted solar gain as well as a lower portion for a terrace, surrounded by a glass balustrade and is connected to the garden below by a minimal metal staircase.
The intent of the design was to create a house that presented as a sculpture in the landscape but still blend in with its surroundings
Closed polyurethane spray foam was applied all over the walls and ceilings to a depth of 125mm to provide airtight insulation with a U-value of 0.2 W/m2K, providing significant energy savings for the life of the building.
The initial budget for the home was £100,000 but the final cost of the home, including all the interior design elements and decorations, came to £133,000, a lot of these costs are made up of the expensive and luxury interior decorations and extras, such as the £16,000 luxury bathroom.
This booklet – Number 24, is free as an electronic download.
The presentation sets are intended for design inspiration and/ or obtaining bids only.
