Shipping Container House Plan Book Series – Book 24

| By | Category: Free Tutorial, Profiled ISBU Home Projects

Following  the incredible popularity of our digital book series – The  Most Influential Shipping Container Homes Ever Built – we  have decided to release a number of expanded  titles  for 2015 showcasing in greater detail some of the  best in Container based Construction from around the World.

Conventional Plans re-designed to save money using Container based Construction.

This stunning cantilevered Container House was constructed in a very beautiful rural part of Northern Ireland by Patrick Bradley using 4 x Type 1A 45′ HC Shipping Containers.

Mr Bradley had originally planned to use conventional construction methods however the Architect realized during planning that he needed to reduce the construction costs to meet his budget and instead decided to use Container based Construction whilst still keeping the overall aesthetics of the original design by cladding the exterior of the house.

The upper level of the Container Home cantilevers over the lower – creating a balcony surrounded by steel fins that protect the interior from unwanted solar gain as well as a lower portion for a terrace, surrounded by a glass balustrade and is connected to the garden below by a minimal metal staircase.

The intent of the design was to create a house that presented as a sculpture in the landscape but still blend in with its surroundings

Closed polyurethane spray foam was applied all over the walls and ceilings to a depth of 125mm to provide airtight insulation with a U-value of 0.2 W/m2K,  providing significant energy savings for the life of the building.

The initial budget for the home was £100,000 but the final cost of the home, including all the interior design elements and decorations, came to £133,000, a lot of these costs are made up of the expensive and luxury interior decorations and extras, such as the £16,000 luxury bathroom.

This booklet – Number 24,  is free as an electronic  download.

The presentation sets are intended for design inspiration and/ or obtaining bids only.

  1. Victor, mant thanks for what you are doing and thanks for the Books!

I was building quite a lot with containers “years” ago …

Now I have an idea … a different one and want to bounce the ideas with “someone”
who is “half crazy” and can thing “out of the container” … but WITH containers.

I live in Marbella, Spain and the project isdifferent and I think ti can be done as
a serie of perhapos 10, – for different places in the world.

They can be built in Algeciras, Spain, just beside Gibraltar. There is a bigger
industrial estate where Maersk and many others store and repair containers.
Algeciras is Med’s biggest container harbor.

If you are interested or know about a “different thinking” archiect who could be
in for something very different, I would be happy to know.
I have done a model and sketches …

Again; Many Thanks for what you are doing and it is a very nice moment to
open your emails, see the Books … lovely!

    Mats Palmquist

    1) I have a land just above Marbella where we will build three container based homes;
one each for my Boys and one for me. We are now in the “idea colection” stage …

    2) I gave you the web site of one of my companies so you get a better reference.
I have been here for 41 years but also lived in the UK, USA, Brazil and more during this
period. Constructor during 16 years here … Now propertysalestools and real estate agency
    but cannot drop containers …

  2. What a groovy house! Patrick Bradley’s in Northern Ireland. Are detailed plans available for purchase?
