Following  the incredible popularity of our digital book series – The  Most Influential Shipping Container Homes Ever Built – we  have decided to release a number of expanded  titles  for 2015 showcasing in greater detail some of the  best in Container based Construction from around the World.

Shipping Container Homes – Book 32 – “Green on Main – Difficult to Permit Area’s”

One of the most active ongoing discussions we have with our Community is on the subject of Planning Approval of Container Homes.

Today’s profiled Container Home is intended as inspiration for those that feel they face tough challenges with Planning Approval with their local Building Authority.

Owner’s Paul Keister and Hollie Stenson have successfully permitted and built this 1200 sqft per Floor Mixed Use Shipping Container Building ( 2 x Floors are Residence with a Car Park and Office Space on the ground floor ) in a Venice Beach California using 14 x Type 1A 40’ HC Shipping Containers.

Designed by Peter Demaria the Building called “Green on Main” is proof that with intelligent preparation and a robust presentation getting Planning Approval for Container based Construction is possible even in Area’s that are notorious for being difficult with Permitting.

The Project was designed as two residences, one for the owners and another for rental. Besides upcycling the Shipping Containers, the project also makes use of a number of strategies to reduce water consumption.

Rainwater is diverted from the rooftop into areas planted out with drought tolerant grasses and succulents. The house also features oversized roof overhangs to provide solar protection for the interior and makes use of passive ventilation methods to help cool the home.

This booklet – Number 32,  is free as an electronic  download.

The presentation sets are intended for design inspiration only.
