A’ Dock from CATTANI Architecture is the first major Shipping Container Apartment project in France.
Providing accommodation for 100 students for the nearby University A’Dock is situated in the Docklands area of Le Havre.
Each 24 SQM apartment studio includes bed and study area, a bathroom, and kitchen area and a stunning view of the Dockland. The elevated first floor provides privacy and secure storage.
Its very interesting the way they have gone about stacking the shipping containers onto a structural steel frame system rather than using the self supporting nature of the ISBU concept.
My only concern is that those containers are brand new – that’s not really the spirit of the Container Architecture Movement which is to re-purpose containers that have reached the end of their life-cycle, however I understand the practical challenges of re-purposing on a large scale like this.
